What does the Email Domain Type API actually return?
A classification — disposable, free, or company — for one domain, plus a separate hostingProvider signal (Google Workspace / Microsoft 365 / Zoho Mail) that never reclassifies a real company as "free" just because a consumer platform hosts its email. type is null, never a guess, when we have no classification.
Why would I check this before accepting a signup?
A disposable address is built to be thrown away — a strong, honest signal for fraud/spam risk. A free-provider address is a normal personal inbox, not a risk by itself. A company address usually means a real business is behind the signup. Most customers route or score leads differently by type rather than blocking any of them outright.
Is this real-time or a stale list?
Classification is read live from MarketXY's own crawled dataset (actes2025's z7 field) at request time, with a small curated fallback list (major free providers, and the open-source disposable-email-domains package) used only when the crawl has no answer yet.
