How do you tell a company domain apart from a free provider?
A company domain is a real, registered business domain that isn't one of the major free consumer providers (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.) and isn't a disposable/temp-mail service — the default real-business case.
If a company uses Google Workspace, does it still count as a company domain?
Yes — always. hostingProvider (Google Workspace / Microsoft 365 / Zoho Mail) is a completely separate signal from type. A real business on Workspace is still type: "company", never reclassified as "free" just because Google hosts its mail. This is the single most common mistake a naive MX-record check makes — we don't make it.
Can I get the company's name, not just "this is a company domain"?
Yes — combine this with MarketXY's Company Intelligence API for the business name, industry, and contact data behind the domain.
What if the domain hasn't been crawled yet?
You get type: null, not a guessed "company" default — even though company is statistically the most common case among the 87,736,175+ domains we have classified, we never assume it without evidence.
